Born in Bagé (Brazil), Márlou Peruzzolo began his studies in music in his hometown with Antonio Aquere. In 2007 he graduated in music at the Federal University of Santa Maria (Brazil) at the class of Professor Krishna Salinas. Aside the graduation activities he studied guitar with Daniel Wolff from 2004 to 2005 and with Thiago Colombo from 2005 to 2007 in Porto Alegre (Brazil).
In 2008 Márlou Peruzzolo was approved in the first place (among all instruments and research areas) to the Masters Program in Music at Federal University of Goiás (Brazil), joining the research area of Musical Performance under Professor Eduardo Meirinhos’ guidance. As a result of his excellent score during the selection process, he was promptly awarded with full scholarship from CAPES. In March 2010 he finished his Masters presenting his dissertation “Appassionata for solo guitar by Ronaldo Miranda: The octatonic treatment and the Brazilian musical constancies”. His dissertation and his final recital were both widely praised by the jury, which was attended by Ronaldo Miranda himself.
In September 2012 Márlou Peruzzolo moved to Portugal to attend the PhD in Musical Performance at University of Aveiro. In this institution he had guitar lessons with Professor Paulo Vaz de Carvalho during the years 2012 and 2013. After this period, he began his guitar lessons with Professor Pedro Rodrigues. For his thesis he developed a research about collaborative processes between composer and performer under the guidance of Professor Helena Marinho. While researching for his doctoral thesis, he presented conferences in England (at the University of Surrey, Bath Spa University and Royal Northern College of Music) and in Portugal (at the University of Aveiro). In January 2017 he obtained his Doctor of Music degree, having been “approved with the highest distinction and honor”.
During his academic studies, Márlou Peruzzolo was selected to participate in masterclasses in Brazil, Argentina and Portugal to study with renowned guitarists such as Eduardo Isaac, Eduardo Fernández, Judicael Perroy, Zoran Dukic, Margarita Escarpa, Andreas von Wangenheim, among others. He also participated in composition workshops taught by João Pedro Oliveira and Ronaldo Miranda.
Throughout his career he performed in Portugal, Croatia, England, Ireland, Italy and Brazil, including performances as soloist with different orchestras in the south of Brazil. Márlou Peruzzolo has premiered solo guitar works by Samuel Peruzzolo-Vieira and Marcelo Rauta (world premieres), as well as Pauxy Gentil-Nunes (European premiere).
He has been honoured with distinct prizes, such as: first prize at “XXX Rosa Mística Latin American Competition” (Curitiba, 2011), second prize at “III Eustaquio Grilo Competition” (Brasilia, 2009) and an honourable mention at “XI Musicalis Competition” (São Paulo, 2007).
As a scholar, Márlou Peruzzolo was a guitar professor at Federal University of Goiás for two years (2009 and 2010) and at the University o Passo Fundo for seven years (from 2017 to 2024), both universities located in Brazil. Márlou also taught at São Teotónio Conservatory of Music in Coimbra (Portugal) during the school year of 2012/2013. Since 2024 he teaches music at the Federal Institute of Rio Grande do Sul/Brazil.
